ABOUT THE BUILDING

The symmetrical building was built in the German neo-Renaissance style by the Member’s Gun Club of Budapest in 1885. Besides providing space for shooting, the original building served as a ballroom, a restaurant and a casino. It was a famous meeting place for the aristocracy of Budapest for example Count Gyula Andrássy hosted his liberal salon on Friday nights here. Moreover, on one special occasion, Queen Elizabeth herself—known as Sisi—opened the dance in the ballroom.

In 1932, Rezső Ray, the well-known architect, drew up plans for the extension of the shooting range. The plans that survived show the installation of the sections between the two side pavilions. As well as the ground floor conversion, additional spaces were created upstairs. The building complex constructed by valiant Emil Lukóy remained in this form until the end of World War II.

During the years of socialism, the facility was owned by the Hungarian Defense Forces (MHSZ), so the shooting range was mostly used by freshly recruited soldiers and university students for practice. They cut the side wings of the ballroom into smaller rooms to create offices and ammunition storage. Until the regime-change, the building was operated by the Hungarian Defense Force as a shooting range, but in 1990, the area reverted to the Member’s Gun Club of Budapest. In 1992, an entrepreneur named János Fenyő acquired the property in a disputed ownership process. After his death in 1998, the building was owned by the local government, and stood empty and unused for years. The Haris family are the current owners of the building, and have not only renovated this beautiful property but are also committed to ensuring it is used and enjoyed by as many people as possible in the future.

ABOUT US

The Haris family originated from Greece as traders who arrived in Hungary in the 18th century, and several generations have now worked in the hospitality and hotel industry, along with other investments that have contributed to constructing and beautifying Budapest. György and Éva Haris were involved in several ventures in the 1990s, most of which were connected to gastronomy and event management. Both their children, Eszter and Gergely studied hospitality, first in Budapest, later in Spain and Switzerland. Gergely moved back to Budapest from Belgium to support the family business and, with his family, oversee the reconstruction of this lovely building, and create the new meeting point in Budapest: Haris Park.

Haris Park combines everything we believe in: family traditions, diversity, modern attitudes, international experiences, fun, a sparkling social life and hard work. When we are building our team, it is our top priority to work with people whom we mutually respect, who are embracing diversity in cultural influences, whose greatest satisfaction is the guest’s happiness.

Our dream is to create a venue that celebrates the wonderful building, serves today’s needs, delights our guests and the locals, and where it is a pleasure to work, all at the same time. We will do our best to to build the foremost dining experience in Budapest, merging our name with quality, unforgettable experiences, to become a quintessential center of the social life of Budapest.
